Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is one of the most contagious animal diseases, with important economic losses. Laboratory diagnosis of any suspected FMD case is therefore a matter of urgency.
NVRQS will apply patent for FMDV structural protein (SP) antibody detection kit developed by collaborative research with a Korean bio-bencher, JenoBiotech Inc.
For the present most FMDV SP antibody detection kits use inactivated FMDV as a diagnostic antigen. Drawback of manipulating FMDV to produce antigen limit the antigen manufacturing to the highly containment laboratory only.
The novel FMDV SP antibody detection method NVRQS has developed obviate handling FMDV to make the diagnostic antigen. This allows all diagnostic materials to be made in the general laboratory safely without worry about FMDV leakage by accident.
The extensive evaluation of the newly developed assay kit was done April this year in Pirbright laboratory, which is a world reference laboratory for FMD. The diagnostic kit using recombinant protein technology showed the diagnostic accuracy comparable to the previous kits which use inactivated FMDV as diagnostic antigen.
We are sure that this simple format of assay using a safe recombinant antigen and monoclonal antibody could make a big success in FMD diagnosis market in the near future.
