Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals.
It is continuously occuring in countries adjacent to the Republic of Korea like North Korea and China.
The possibilities of the entry of FMD keep on rising due to the increased exchange among Asian countries.
National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service is conducting its own FMD special preventive measure from March
to May to maintain FMD-free country status by preventing this catastrophic disease.
The director of Jungbu Regional office of NVRQS, DR. Kim Tae Yung, paid a visit last month to the airport and harbors
for inspection and to the associated organizations like Korea Customs Service, Korea Airport Corporation, National
Plant Quarantine Service, Korea Coast Guard, and Maritime Affairs and Port Office within the jurisdiction requesting
their continuous support and cooperation in prevention of FMD.
Moreover, officials at Jung bu regional office had arranged to visit Korea tourism Organization and Universities within
the jurisdiction this April in order to provide the tour guides and students majoring in tourism with some information on
the importance of quarantine and prevention of the entry of highly contagious diseases of domestic animals.
